Over the week gone by, much hullabaloo has been created around how director Mudassar Aziz carried his DULHA MIL GAYA leading lady Sushmita Sen on his shoulders during the Caribbean shoot of the film. Though a mischievous picture has leaked around this so-called ’incident’, the fact is that it wasn’t just Sushmita Sen who was transported in a similar fashion. Also, other than Mudassar showing his chivalry; there were also other assistant directors and crew members who lent a helping hand.
Says a source from the crew that had travelled to Caribbean for the film’s shoot, "Though a picture of Sushmita being carried by her good friend Mudassar is being splashed all over hence making the shoot look like a romantic episode, the fact remains that the young director with help from other crew members was also carrying sensitive filming equipment, musical instruments and other specialized pieces of filming material. This is not all as the art director, who is a senior lady and had hurt her back, was also being ferried in a similar way."
All this pain had to be taken by the crew in order to shoot the film’s title sequence which featured an extremely difficult montage of shots filmed on Sushmita sen. A specially created ramp, which extended into Caribbean Sea, along with a 50 meters walkway, got washed away by a storm.
"We did recreate the ramp but for the walkway we had two choices. Either construct it and hence delay the shoot by at least a day or somehow think innovative and reach the ramp for the shoot", says producer Viveck Vaswani, "We opted for the latter though the process had to be repeated day in and night out not just for Sushmita but others as well."
"When I saw the state in which the entire ramp was, I was wondering how Sushmita and others would manage to shoot in such condition. I was sure that there would be delay", adds Anthony Maharaj, Executive Producer of the Caribbean leg of DULHA MIL GAYA, "However, Sushmita surprised and humbled all of us. We can learn from such professionalism."
A thought which is echoed by Viveck, "Due to her costumes and make up, she wasn’t expected to traverse the sea on foot to reach the ramp. She would have made some reasonable comments like ’can’t shoot’, ’too difficult’ or ’make a walkway’ and that wouldn’t have even constituted as starry tantrums. However, all credit to her professionalism; she was sport enough to be carried on Mudassar’s shoulders. The two being good friends further eased the situation."
Ultimately, the shoot went on peacefully and the entire crew of DULHA MIL GAYA heaved a sigh of relief. However, the picture being out on net caught everyone by surprise, most importantly Sushmita Sen.
"I really don’t have much to react on something as frivolous as this. There are so many beautiful moments attached with DULHA MIL GAYA and something like this hardly deserves more attention and focus", is all that Sushmita is willing to comment.
However, Mudassar is willing to round this up. He states, "It is easy to sensationalize a simple picture. However, the sheer hard work and sweat that goes into taking a simple shot is something that only those people can explain who have gone through the entire tribulation."
Hope this sets the records straight and DULHA MIL GAYA manages to make news for much bigger and better reasons. Releasing on 8th January, DULHA MIL GAYA also stars Shah Rukh Khan in a pivotal role along with new find Mohit Chadha.
