Abhishek Bachchan sports a metrosexual look for his debut TV show

abhishe

Dressed in a bright yellow coat over a pale yellow shirt and white trousers, Abhishek Bachchan sports a metrosexual look for his debut TV show "National Bingo Night" to be aired on Colors.

Apart from that, the actor sports a baby pink jacket for the promotional photo shoot for the show.

However, this isn’t the first time Abhishek is flaunting the metrosexual look - he made similar style statements in movies like "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" and "Dostana".

He is extremely excited about the show, being produced by Fox Television Studios India Pvt. Ltd.

"It’s a fun-filled show where the whole country will be my guest without applying any brains or answer any difficult questions. This is such a chilled out concept and something that has never been done before in India. The sheer simplicity of the idea and the fact that this show is highly interactive is what attracted me to it," Abhishek said in a press statement.

The game show will have two fast-paced rounds of the popular guessing game ’Bingo’.

The formal launch of the show was preceded by a flurry of marketing activity including teasers on the channel. For the past few weeks, viewers could see glimpses of Abhishek reclining on a chair or dozing in a cosy bed in promos announcing the launch of his ’Aaram Classes’.

"The idea here is that it’s a show which is to be enjoyed by relaxing. That’s why we came up with the concept of Aaram Classes... we want people to chill out and play this game. There’s no stress, no tension involved at all. So tune in to learn ’aaram’ and get ready for Bingo," said Abhishek.

The launch date of the show has yet to be announced.

The format of the show is owned by 20th Fox Television Distribution and it has run successfully in the US, Australia and Philippines.

Neetu Chandra truly believes she’s the next Aishwarya Rai. Now why’s that? It’s because she is working with Ram Gopal Varma and Jag Mundhra and the Bachchan bahu has worked with these directors on her last films.

But that’s not all. She draws likenesses between her and the former Miss World because she has now moved into an apartment in Lokhandwala where Aishwarya lived in her early days.

Maybe she is now looking towards having an Abhishek Bachchan soon too, who knows?

Celina Jaitley now wants to work in a Bengali film

Celina_

Celina Jaitley has already dabbled in Telugu and Kannada films and the former beauty queen now wants to work in a Bengali film, preferably one with Rituparno Ghosh.

"I have spent a lot of time in West Bengal and this is the reason I can easily associate myself with the place, culture and the language. I would really love to work in a Bengali movie because I feel they make very emotional and interesting movies, " Celina told in an interview.

"The way they weave stories is fascinating. They simply touch the human chord. I would love to work with Ritu-da (Rituparno Ghosh). This would be one of my targets for the next year, " she said.

Celina is riding high after winning the best female actor award for her performance in the English film "Love Has No Language" at the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) held Nov 10-20. The movie was a New Zealand entry at the film festival.

"This year has been so good. Winning this award has been an icing on the cake. These awards work as a motivation factor and help you perform better. As the role was a bit different from the conventional roles I do, it worked, " said the actress.

"I have always seen that whenever I have attempted something different, I have been appreciated, " she added.

"Love Has No Language", an engaging romantic movie, was directed by Ken Khan and stars New Zealand actor Ben Mitchell as well as Hindi film actors Rati Agnihotri and Kiran Kumar.

The 28-year-old, who has featured in Hindi movies like "Janasheen", "No Entry" and "Golmaal Returns", has seven movies in her kitty and is confident that she will make her presence felt on the big screen next year.

The model-turned-actress doesn’t understand why people question her if she opts to do only a few movies.

"If Aamir Khan does one movie at a time, he is applauded but if Celina Jaitley chooses to do a few movies, she is criticised. Why such disparity?" the actress asked.

Apart from acting, Celina is involved with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and is also a gay rights activist.

"In my free time, I love to work for the causes I strongly feel for. All these things are no substitute for romance but they are something that I feel responsible for, " she said.

"I choose to live my life fully and it deserves appreciation, " she added.

The actress will soon be seen in movies like "Accident On Hill Road", "Run Bhola Run" and "Chai Garam".

Shahid Kapoor Chance Pe Dance tells the tale of strugglers

chance-

Shahid Kapoor says his forthcoming film "Chance Pe Dance" tells the tale of strugglers waiting for their big break. And the actor reveals he could relate to the character as he too was rejected at many auditions and even had to sleep in his car for a whole night.

"It’s a very realistic film on strugglers. The story of the film flows through such a situation that any struggler can identify with whether he is struggling as an engineer, doctor or as a lawyer," Shahid told IANS.

Directed by Ken Ghosh, "Chance Pe Dance" revolves around a talented young struggling actor Sameer (Shahid). Positive and brimming with energy, Sameer juggles various jobs while working towards getting his big break in films. During his struggle, he meets Tina (Genelia D’Souza), a choreographer.

"It’s a typical character of an aspiring actor. He comes from Delhi and struggles in Mumbai for three years. He stays in a house but the rent is due for a long time. (He) owns a second hand car, but doesn’t have money to buy petrol.

"But having failed in almost 300 auditions, he is still a very positive guy. Every day he wakes up with a hope that something good will happen to him that day. That is the quality that makes him going," Shahid explained.

The actor says he could really identify with the character.

"Five years back, I was Sameer. I had a red Maruti 800. I also went for many auditions, which turned (out) to be futile. There are situations in the film that I have also gone through...I have actually spent a whole night in the car, as I didn’t have a place to stay. In the film, there is a long chunk where it shows the guy thrown out of his house because he couldn’t pay the rent (and) stays in his car," said Shahid.

Shahid’s dancing skills are already well-known but he promises to surprise his fans with brand new moves thanks to American choreographer Marty Kudelka, who has worked with international pop stars like Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson and N’Sync.

"When you do a film like ’Chance Pe Dance’, then dance becomes a very important part of it. As people already know that I can dance, so the challenge is how do I surprise people or give them something new," he said.

"Then Ken and I thought that probably if I try a new style of dancing, which I have never done before, it will offer something new to the audience and that’s why we got in touch with Marty Kudelka," he added.

Asked if Genelia was able to cope with his dance steps, Shahid said: "Well there is not too much of dancing that Genelia and I have done together. She plays a choreographer in the film. She was very nervous initially, but finally she turned out very well."

"It was great fun working with her. I loved Genelia’ s work in ’Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na’. I am really happy that she came on to the film. She is a very, very good actor. I was very impressed when I saw her performance in the film."

Shahid is now excited to work in his father Pankaj Kapoor’s film, which would go on floors early next year.

"He is going away from what people know he is brilliant at and becoming a director because he wants to present me in a certain way. It is a huge responsibility but I am excited to get that opportunity. I really hope that I can justify the amount of time and faith he is investing in me. About the film I can only say that it’s a love story," Shahid said.

Bollywood has pinned many a hope on the coming year

07first

After losing close to Rs.700 crores (Rs.7 billion) in 2009, Bollywood has pinned many a hope on the coming year with a slew of films - Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s comeback as a pair, Salman Khan’s magnum opus, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in a political drama and Shahid Kapoor’s next where he shows off his eight-pack abs.

The year will start with actor Uday Chopra’s debut production venture "Pyaar Impossible", which stars him and actress Priyanka Chopra. The film will hit theatres Jan 8.

While Uday plays a geek, Priyanka will be seen as the beauty every guy has his eyes on. Directed by Jugal Hansraj, "Pyaar Impossible" is a romantic comedy that shows how Uday and Priyanka come together by a twist of fate and love blooms amidst all odds.

"It was good so far. Now I am really waiting to see how public takes the film," Uday had said.

A week after "Pyaar Impossible", Shahid Kapoor will enthral fans with his dance moves in "Chance Pe Dance" Jan 15, where he teams up with Genelia D’Souza.

In the film helmed by Ken Ghosh, Shahid plays a struggling actor and had to really work on his body. He will sport an eight-pack abs in the film.

Next in line is Salman Khan’s magnum opus "Veer", which releases Jan 22. Directed by Anil Sharma, it is a patriotic period film set in colonial India.

"Veer", written by Salman himself, is about bravery, treachery and love and revolves around the much-maligned Pindaris, who preferred death to dishonour and fought to their last breath to save their land.

The story revolves around Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh) who suffers from Asperger syndrome, a form of autism. Rizwan falls in love with single mother Mandira (Kajol), who lives in San Francisco. Rizwan is detained by authorities at Los Angeles airport, mistaking his disability for ’suspicious’ behaviour.

Feb 12 will see another big release in the form of "Teen Patti". The film, a crime thriller, stars Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Hollywood veteran Ben Kingsley. Directed by Leena Yadav, "Teen Patti" also features R. Madhavan.

While April 9 will see Aishwarya Rai and Akshay Kumar in Vipul Shah’s "Action Replay", come May 28 and Prakash Jha’s "Rajneeti" will present Katrina Kaif in a completely different avatar along with Ranbir Kapoor.

Apart from these, the other films that will see a 2010 release include "Delhi Belly", "Hook Ya Crook", "Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai", "Bum Bum Bole", "Housefull", "Anjana Anjani" and "Dulha Mil Jaayega".

Humour Movie Review of Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots

Pants down and palms up! Give a high five to Rajkumar Hirani, whose formula of cocktailing entertainment with social messages has given us jaadu ki japphi and Gandhigiri in the past. His latest baby 3 Idiots isn’t exactly the cinematic ‘chamatkar’ it’s cracked up to be. It’s a frothy, feelgood, fun-filled, one-time-watch film that leaves you smiling but doubtful whether you wanna walk back in for another viewing.

Borrowing only scraps from Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Five Point Someone’, Hirani and co-writer Abhijat Joshi churn out some delectable idiotgiri, laced with juvenile humour and tear-shedding moments. The only trouble is that the film’s core message is hammered out so many times that by the end it begins to lose its punch.

Salt water is a good conductor of electricity. Everyone’s read it, but Rancho (Aamir Khan ) applied it on his ‘pissed-off’ senior to escape getting ragged on his very first day of the Imperial Engineering College. An Edison-in-the-making, he believes in striving for excellence rather than success, which, in fact, is the core message of the film.

But excellence can’t be had if you strive half-heartedly or fearfully or, worst, mechanically. Thereby come in three more characters - Farhan (Madhavan) who wants to be a wild life photographer but is doing engineering to fullfil his dad’s dream; Raju (Sharman Joshi), a poor lad who’s so afraid of failure that his fear has become a self-fulfilling prophecy; and Chatur (Omi) who’s a learning machine adept at mugging up books.

On top of them is the ever grimacing professor Viru Sahastrabuddhe (Boman Irani), fondly called Virus, telling them that the world’s a rat race in which one has to step on another to get to the top. No wonder the ingenious Rancho is an oddball out in the herd. His questions perplex his professors. And his disdain for the education system that professes learning by rote makes him the arch foe of Virus. Sandwiched between the two foes is Virus’s doctor daughter Pia (Kareena Kapoor) who falls for Rancho but has to face up to her eccentric pa at home.

Hirani and Joshi take this basic story, spin it on its head, and make it a tale of a quest of Farhan and Raju for their lost friend Rancho, who disappeared after topping the college. The writer duo packs in some fine humour and drama but overshoot the mark at some places. For instance, Chatur’s convocation speech in which the word ‘Chamatkar’ is replaced by ‘Balatkar’ is a gag stretched too long. And there’s too much butt baring and dropping of pants. And the screenplay too takes a circuitous route through a funeral and a wedding, both not essential to the plot.

Despite these foibles, ‘3 Idiots’ makes for an enjoyable watch, thanks to the bonhomie cracked up on screen by Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman. Aamir’s Rancho is a bouncy, fidgety genius with a golden heart. The 44-year-old actor almost passes off as a 22-year-old collegian, bringing out in his character the juvenile buoyancy and vivacity few actors of his age can. Madhavan and Sharman give ample support from the flanks, but a word of praise needs to be reserved for Sharman who shines equally in dramatic as well as funny scenes. Kareena, sadly, has been relegated to a corner but makes her presence felt in a few well-enacted sequences, but it’s Boman Irani who comes up with the best performance in the ensemble with his brilliant portrayal of an eccentric professor. His jawline protruded, his brows pursed, his gait ungainly, his speech lisped, Irani is every bit the vile and virulent Virus he’s supposed to be.

Shantanu Moitra’s music and Muralidharan’s cinematography complement the flick well. Rajkumar Hirani spins a yarn that despite a few botches has its heart in the right place. For this alone, ‘3 Idiots’ definitely ought to be seen and enjoyed.

Actor John Abraham's good looks became a source of embarrassment

bipasha

Actor John Abraham may have set the silver screen on fire with his looks many times before, but this time his good looks became a source of embarrassment.

John, who is lying low these days, was the chief guest at a recent college event along with girlfriend and actress Bipasha Basu. According to an eyewitness account, “As soon as John made his entry along with Bipasha , the young crowd began to loose control. A string of requests followed, the most embarrassing one requesting John to remove his shirt and flex his muscles.”

Though, John remained as poised as he could during the entire event, but he was constantly being pestered with requests to show off his brawn. This left the actor a tad embarrassed since he never expected such requests to be made at the event.

The eyewitness concludes, “Finally John and Bipasha left the venue feeling relaxed that they were far away from such embarrassing requests.”

Roman Catholic Church has praised the Simpsons animated series

the-sim

Television’s most dysfunctional family ‘The Simpsons’ have received the heavenly seal of approval, as the Roman Catholic Church has praised the animated series for its dealings with religion.

The Vatican’s newspaper L’Osservatore Romano published an article on Dec 22 lauding the long running US animated show insisting ‘many today wouldn’t know how to laugh’, if the series hadn’t been aired, reports huffingtonpost.com.

The newspaper story insisted the show’s success is due to its ‘realistic and intelligent writing’ and thanked the show’s producers for depicting family patriarch Homer’s struggle with his own faith through its 20 years on the small screen.

The article added: ‘Homer finds in God his last refuge, even though he sometimes gets His name sensationally wrong. But these are just minor mistakes, after all, the two know each other well.’

L’Osservatore Romano recently paid tribute to ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’, for highlighting the ’sacrifice’ needed for good to triumph over evil.

Music Review: Salman Khan’s Veer

2990631

Artist: Sonu Niigaam, Wajid, Neuman Pinto, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Suzanne D’Mello, Rekha Bhardwaj, Sharib Sabri, Toshi Sabri, Shabaab Sabri, Sukhwinder Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, Roop Kumar Rathod, Shreya Ghoshal

Music Director: Sajid-Wajid

Lyricist: Gulzar

Label: Eros Music

Genre: Bollywood

Rating: 2.5/5

When one listens to the Veer album, they know right away that Sajid-Wajid have clearly tried to make music different from their usual kind. Now, how far it will impress audiences is yet to be seen…

The album opens with Taali, sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Rahat Ali Khan, Wajid and Neuman Pinto. A track about warriors and victory, it sounds like an AR Rahman composition. But it suits the film and makes for a good listen. It also has another version; a solo by Sukhwinder that is only a lot more dramatic.

The next track, Surili Akhiyon Waali is one of the most romantic songs one could come across these days. Complete with beautiful lyrics and perfectly sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, the song couldn’t have been any better. While it is somewhat tragic, it is nonetheless one of the album’s best songs. It also has a duet version, with Sunidhi Chauhan, which sounds slightly better than the original.

Salaam Aya, the next song, has some good vocals by Roop Kumar Rathod and Shreya Ghoshal . While it is not quite on the same level as the earlier track, it has a place of its own.

Meherbaniyan, a dance number, sung by Sonu Niigaam comes next. It is probably one of those tracks on the album that will attract masses. While it is a misfit for a period film, audiences may still enjoy it.

Then comes Kanha, a Thumri number, by Rekha Bhardwaj and Toshi-Sharib. A nice classical music piece, which will hopefully do some good for the film, Kanha makes sure that it’s not just the classical music lovers who enjoy it.

The closing track of the album is an instrumental track, The Spirit of Veer, which is the theme of the film. It is somewhat average and it leaves one wondering why it isn’t as dramatic as the film’s story goes.

In short, it is a refreshing change to see Sajid-Wajid shift from their usual style of music and try something new. Gulzar’s lyrics also do wonders. The album would probably get noticed a lot more if the film does well. As of now, all we can say is it’s good for a try. But if you’re looking for chartbusters, this might not be your cup of tea.

Salman Khan’s love for humanity has turned towards horses

Salman

It’s strange but true. Salman Khan’s love for humanity has turned towards horses. This love has compelled him to buy two for his farm horse. The love story began during the shoot of Veer.

“In the midst of many horses, one horse that stood out was this one named Laxmi. She became my favorite and I was so attached to her that I must have fed her more biscuits than I have eaten in my entire life! We had the poor villagers all around while shooting who wouldn’t get proper water etc and here I had this horse eating biscuits all the time. So the next thing huge biscuit packets started coming for the all the children there,” exclaims Salman.

He goes on to add, “Incidentally, when we were not shooting for Veer, Laxmi was shooting for some other film where she fell into a pond and nearly died. Fortunately, she survived and came back to shoot with me on Veer. This time she was scared and shy and it toll a lot to get rid of her fear.”

Salman further adds,”The best part was by the time we were done with the shoot of the film, everybody had become so attached to their horses that we were in conversation more with the horses than with each other!

“My love for horses has grown so much after shooting for Veer that I have decided to buy two horses for my farmhouse,” signs off Salman with a smile.

Katrina Kaif decided to go and join her family in London

Katrina

The healing process after her surgery last week is yet not even half-complete. But Katrina Kaif , recovering quietly from surgery at her Mumbai home, stubbornly decided to go and join her family in London for the annual Christmas-New Year vacation, which she had promised herself for months now.

Katrina flew out of Mumbai early Wednesday morning after getting a reluctant go-ahead from her doctors at Breach Candy hospital.

Wincing in pain she said a few hours before departure, “The pain will remain for a while. But the process of healing is on. I got my doctor’s consent in Mumbai and I’ve another doctor in London who’s fully aware of my condition. The doctors said the pain would be the same in Mumbai or London. And as long as I’m very careful about not exerting myself I’ll be fine. So I’m off.”

Katrina had gone into a depression earlier during the week when she felt she wouldn’t be able to join her sisters and brother in London because of her medical condition.

On Tuesday after visiting the doctors Katrina and her mother took a decision.

Said Katrina, “I can’t exert myself, can’t dance around or be boisterous. But that’s okay. Because our family is in any case not the dancing type. I just want to be with my sister’s little boy take him to the toy stores in London and buy him everything he wants.”

Katrina returns to Mumbai in the first week of January, hopefully fully healed. “Luckily I’ve a doctor in London who knows how to look after me. So basically I’m just moving into a happier state of mind by being close to the people I love. That would help me heal quicker. Wish me luck.”

Shahid Kapoor take all the chances with CHANCE PE DANCE

shahid_

A darling of females; an emerging superstar and, an assured box office draw. That’s Shahid Kapoor for you who was happy being called KAMINEY, danced along to the tunes of ... HADIPPA, take all the chances with CHANCE PE DANCE...

But the charming actor Shahid instead of enjoying his newly acquired stardom prefers being modest and down to earth, "You know I have been asked this question so many times and I always wonder that yaar, how can I start shouting - ’Haan bhai, look at me, I am a superstar ’. That would be so stupid, isn’t it? Arrey, I have a long way to go before I can be termed as a superstar. There is so much more for me to do and then people to decide if I really fit the bill. It is a long journey."

So how does he wish to traverse this journey?

Says Shahid, "It’s as simple as this- I have to work for many more years to come. I am 28 today. Tomorrow when I am 50 years old, have done at least one remarkable film a year and resultantly have a repertoire of a couple of dozen good films to boast of, perhaps then this entire superstar title would still look good."

The journey has been quite eventful it seems. For someone who started off as a dancer in Shiamak Davar’s troupe, today he is in the run for Top-5 actors. And Shahid Kapoor is extremely proud of his achievements, "Yes, I am very proud of every day that I have spent in reaching the kind of position that I enjoy today. It feels good when I look back at all the challenges that I faced while addressing an entire world out there. It has been a long and a really emotional journey indeed."

Well, one can pretty much sense that in the way he is describing the entire state of affairs."The thing is that now I know what I want to achieve and how I could achieve that. There are so many ways to do things and then there is one way which is right. I am trying to become good in finding that one way. But yes, in this entire journey, I am now finally at ease with myself."

Aishwarya Rai has had two encounters in a span of few days

aishwar

In this small world Aishwarya Rai has had two encounters with as many ex beaus in a span of few days. As reported earlier, she found herself face to face with Salman Khan while shooting at a Mumbai studio. Now, on Saturday, she was seated just an arm’s distance away from Vivek Oberoi at a Mumbai police event named ‘Jashn 2010-Dhamaka Bollywood Ka’.

Ash was seated in the first row at the function. Shockingly, the organizers had placed Vivek’s seat very close to Ash. There was only one seat between the two. Vivek was obviously hesitant to sit there, but relented after persuasion by the organizers. On top of it, Manish Malhotra, who was supposed to be seated between Ash and Vivek wasn’t on his seat. So when Vivek took his seat, there was an evident discomfort between Ash and him.

We hear that Ash even looked at Vivek for a split second. Vivek too turned and looked at her. Both of them were uncomfortable. But the drama didn’t last long. Manish Malhotra, who had perhaps sensed their discomfort, rushed back to his seat. Vivek still wasn’t comfortable, after a few minutes he left his seat.

Human beings are hypocritical-Actress Celina Jaitley

IMG_746

Recently, during a pretty loaded interview with Celina Jaitley along with her Accident on Hill Road co-star Abhimanyu Singh and producer Nari Hira, was quizzed on how sexuality in Indian cinema and in our society has undergone a change.

To this she replied, “I feel sex never changes. Sex is the same, like it was ten years ago, during the Kamasutra days. Even now it’s the same. What has changed is that people want to be politically correct or diplomatic while talking on this subject today.”

When quizzed on the taboo virginity issue, she boldly shot back, “Human beings are hypocritical! We all are. Myself included. I am going to call myself a virgin till I get married. As simple as that. Yes, I am hypocritical and every actress who comes here will say the same. So you got to take my word for it.”

No wonder her hero Abhimanyu was too stunned to comment after that.

Aamir Khan clarified that he did not stay at the Saraswati hotel in Varanasi

aamir-k

Bollywood star Aamir Khan Sunday clarified that he did not stay at the Saraswati hotel in Varanasi in disguise and it was only his crew members who put up there. His revelation came after the hotel owner was charged by the state police for violating the identity verification rules for guests.

‘I heard the news and felt very bad. I was not staying at the hotel, although I won’t share where I was staying, it’s a secret. It’s for the authorities to find out where I was staying,’ he told Star News in an interview.

‘It was not the fault of the hotel owner as he assumed that I was there after meeting my crew members,’ he said, adding he wanted the hotel authorities to be exonerated.

‘I am a strong advocate of taking care of security concerns, and hotels must check the identity of each and every one staying in their hotels,’ he added.

The Uttar Pradesh police Wednesday said that Aamir Khan checked into Hotel Saraswati in Mughal Sarai area of Varanasi Dec 10 along with nine other people. They checked out Dec 13.

Aamir Khan had reportedly booked the room in the name of someone else. In all, seven rooms were booked in the name of ‘Akram Shah and party’.

The police said that the hotel did not follow government directives on verification of the identity of every hotel guest and, therefore, the owner is liable to give an explanation or else he would lose his licence.

However, Aamir was spared by the administration. ‘Aamir is not to blame and it was the duty of the hotel management to have the correct name of the guests in their records,’ police said.

The actor had gone to the Hindu holy city to search for his roots - his mother hailed from Varanasi.

Aamir did manage to trace his family connections and visited some relatives living in the city.

Salman Khan disapproved comparisons between Zarine and Katrina Kaif

Salman Khan who has turned script writer with his upcoming dream project Veer says the film has been a stressful experience for him as an actor and writer.

"It was a stressful experience for me. But Veer has shaped up well and I am happy with the final product, " Salman told reporters at the music launch of the film. The period flick, set in 1875, is slated for a theatrical release on January 22, 2010.

Salman, who has further toned his body to suit the role, had first conceived the idea of making a movie on the exploits of a Pindari soldier 20 years ago. Speaking about his new co-star Zarine Khan , Salman said Zarine was a brilliant newcomer as she belongs to the new generation.

Director Anil Sharma disapproved comparisons between Zarine and Katrina Kaif. "It is unfair to compare a newcomer with anybody. By doing this you are belittling the efforts and hard work of a young actor, " he said.

Music composers Sajid-Wajid have given the music in the film while Oscar-winning lyricist Gulzar has penned the songs.

Imran Khan is living under the fear of being mocked

bolly

Imran Khan is living under the fear of being mocked these days

We hear Imran, who is famous for his jovial and prankster nature, seems to have given up playing tricks on his “Delhi Belly’ co-star Vir Das, for the fear of being out-witted in his own game.

Vir Das, apart from being an actor is apparently also a stand up comedian.

“Imran, Shenaz Treasurywala and Kunal Roy Kapoor could not dare to take pangas (play tricks) with me (winks), considering I would give it back, twice as hard, as I am a hard-core comedian, and pranks come naturally to me.”

Vir raves enthusiastically about Imran and goes on to add, “On a serious note, Imran is a wonderful person and has been very supportive of my stand up comic act. He has watched my shows and has been a great admirer.”

“I have found a good friend in Imran and he is a great actor,” signs off Vir.

Bollywood star Govinda had almost given up as an actor

21798_2

Govinda had almost given up as an actor when he got into politics and had a rough time even as a politician. He made a come back with ‘Partner’ with the support of friends like David Dhawan and Salman Khan. He had two other films that followed, ‘Do Knot Disturb’ and ‘Life Partners’ which gave him some confidence.

But there is one film he is banking on and that is B. R. Film’s ‘Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai’, a film which was completed a year ago, but has been lying in the cans for different reasons. It faced the biggest problem when a Hollywood company filed a suit for heavy damages for lifting an original subject made in Hollywood. The director, Ravi Chopra managed to get an out of court settlement for which he had to pay a staggering price.

The film seems to be facing other problem which is holding back its release indefinitely. Govinda is now looking forward to what he considers to be the best film of his career, a film called ‘Chai Garam’ made by a group of young and enthusiastic film makers.

Salman Khans fans can't expect a GADAR out of VEER

salma

When the first look of Salman Khan’s Anil Sharma directed period drama flick VEER was unveiled, the reactions were quite negative, with the some even resorting to sarcasm comparing Salman’s look in VEER to the one he sported in one of the biggest duds of his career, SURYAVANSHI. But what everyone conveniently forgot was that the director of VEER is Anil Sharma, who has given GADAR: EK PREM KATHA, one of the biggest blockbusters of Hindi cinema.

Not many will remember that when the first promos/ look of Anil Sharma’s GADAR were out, the reactions that it received were almost similar to what Salman’s VEER received. There was a lot of criticism of its old, jaded look with a section of the media poking fun at its trailers especially in comparison to LAGAAN, which was a stylish period film and released alongside GADAR.

However defying all logic and putting all criticism to rest, Sunny Deol’s power packed performance created mass hysteria and the film went on to become one of the biggest hits in the history of Indian cinema, netting 70 crores, beating LAGAAN (27-28 crores) and every other competition that came in it’s way.

The director of GADAR , Anil Sharma proved once again (after HUKUMAT, ELAAN-E-JANG and TAHALKA etc.) that he is a big canvas director and could handle big budget films and big stars with ease. Even his THE HERO-LOVE STORY OF A SPY received a historic opening and his last outing with the three Deols, APNE managed to survive the onslaught of Himesh’s musical extravaganza AAP KA SURROOR and Emraan Hashmi’s well made, AWARAPAN.

To sum up Salman’s VEER is definitely in capable hands and there is no reason why Salman fans can’t expect a GADAR out of VEER. Here’s hoping that it does!

Akshay Kumar's twin release in April 2010

akshay-

April 2010 pretty much seemed like an Akshay Kumar double bill in the offering. The twin release of HOUSEFULL and ACTION REPLAY was pretty much on the cards with both films racing towards the finishing line. However, probability for two Akshay films arriving in the same month has gone down with producer-director Vipul Shah a tad too apprehensive about ACTION REPLAY.

"We have to keep in mind the best possible release timing rather than hurrying up the affairs. It’s one step at a time", he recently said.

What must also be playing in Vipul’s mind is the fact that April already has another confirmed release of Akshay in the form of Sajid Khan directed HOUSEFULL. The release period was locked months back and since the film has been pretty much on schedule with entire principal shooting (which took place across the globe) wrapped up, it may well gain priority over other releases.

Since 2009 had already witnessed five Akshay Kumar releases (CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, 8X10 TASVEER, KAMBAKKHT ISHQ, BLUE, DE DANA DAN) and HOUSEFULL is next in the pipeline, Vipul is expectedly cautious before many any further announcements.

ACTION REPLAY also stars veteran Randhir Kapoor in an important role along with Ranvijay Singh, a popular VJ who was last seen in Vipul’s own LONDON DREAMS. Pritam has composed the music for the film which is touted to be a neat family entertainer instead of being an action flick, something that the title (wrongly) conveys.

Incidentally, when the film was first announced two years back, Vipul wasn’t too happy with the title and was having second thoughts about changing it from English to Hindi. Given the fact that LONDON DREAMS didn’t quite click with the audiences, he may well be reconsidering his decision.

Mudassar Aziz carried Sushmita Sen on his shoulders in Caribbean

1455805

Over the week gone by, much hullabaloo has been created around how director Mudassar Aziz carried his DULHA MIL GAYA leading lady Sushmita Sen on his shoulders during the Caribbean shoot of the film. Though a mischievous picture has leaked around this so-called ’incident’, the fact is that it wasn’t just Sushmita Sen who was transported in a similar fashion. Also, other than Mudassar showing his chivalry; there were also other assistant directors and crew members who lent a helping hand.

Says a source from the crew that had travelled to Caribbean for the film’s shoot, "Though a picture of Sushmita being carried by her good friend Mudassar is being splashed all over hence making the shoot look like a romantic episode, the fact remains that the young director with help from other crew members was also carrying sensitive filming equipment, musical instruments and other specialized pieces of filming material. This is not all as the art director, who is a senior lady and had hurt her back, was also being ferried in a similar way."

All this pain had to be taken by the crew in order to shoot the film’s title sequence which featured an extremely difficult montage of shots filmed on Sushmita sen. A specially created ramp, which extended into Caribbean Sea, along with a 50 meters walkway, got washed away by a storm.

"We did recreate the ramp but for the walkway we had two choices. Either construct it and hence delay the shoot by at least a day or somehow think innovative and reach the ramp for the shoot", says producer Viveck Vaswani, "We opted for the latter though the process had to be repeated day in and night out not just for Sushmita but others as well."

"When I saw the state in which the entire ramp was, I was wondering how Sushmita and others would manage to shoot in such condition. I was sure that there would be delay", adds Anthony Maharaj, Executive Producer of the Caribbean leg of DULHA MIL GAYA, "However, Sushmita surprised and humbled all of us. We can learn from such professionalism."

A thought which is echoed by Viveck, "Due to her costumes and make up, she wasn’t expected to traverse the sea on foot to reach the ramp. She would have made some reasonable comments like ’can’t shoot’, ’too difficult’ or ’make a walkway’ and that wouldn’t have even constituted as starry tantrums. However, all credit to her professionalism; she was sport enough to be carried on Mudassar’s shoulders. The two being good friends further eased the situation."

Ultimately, the shoot went on peacefully and the entire crew of DULHA MIL GAYA heaved a sigh of relief. However, the picture being out on net caught everyone by surprise, most importantly Sushmita Sen.

"I really don’t have much to react on something as frivolous as this. There are so many beautiful moments attached with DULHA MIL GAYA and something like this hardly deserves more attention and focus", is all that Sushmita is willing to comment.

However, Mudassar is willing to round this up. He states, "It is easy to sensationalize a simple picture. However, the sheer hard work and sweat that goes into taking a simple shot is something that only those people can explain who have gone through the entire tribulation."

Hope this sets the records straight and DULHA MIL GAYA manages to make news for much bigger and better reasons. Releasing on 8th January, DULHA MIL GAYA also stars Shah Rukh Khan in a pivotal role along with new find Mohit Chadha.

Nikhil Advani break the ice between Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma

Anushka

Director Nikhil Advani wants to break the ice between first time co-stars Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma by sending them on a dinner date together.Anushka Sharma and Akshay Kumar team up for Nikhil Advani’s next big venture, a romcom titled Patiala House. Nikhil last directed the Akshay Kumar starrer Chandni Chowk to China that tanked miserably at the BO. The news of Akki teaming up with Nikhil did take the industry by surprise but Nikhil explained that the concept of Patiala House was conceived even before CC2C which both had readily agreed to be a part of in the future. Patiala house also stars Akki’s mother- in-law Dimple Kapadia who plays his onscreen mum in the film opposite Rishi Kapoor.

Anushka Sharma made her debut with the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and the actress who stars opposite Akki in the forthcoming Patiala House has rarely interacted with the action superstar. This being the reason behind Nikhil’s decision in sending both his leading stars on a dinner date in order to familiarise themselves with each other. Nikhil has already organised a dinner date between the two actors at a five star hotel in the city and spoke of the matter saying, “Its true, I want them to be comfortable with each other so that the chemistry between them while shooting can feel genuine. Akshay and Anushka haven’t had the time to familiarise themselves with each other and some alone time together can help them break the ice.” Whether Twinkle would have issues with the two actors bonding with each other is just a matter of childish talk for Advani as he knows that she’s too mature to have such thoughts in her head.

Patiala House is rumored to the story of a joint family residing in Southhall, presumably, in Patiala House. Buzz was that there was not one surd but a total of 32 sardars residing in the house. While some say that the head of the family will be played by Dara Singh, others says that Patiala House’s patriarch is Gurkreeat Singh Kalon (Rishi Kapoor) who rules and runs his family life just like a prime minister would run a government. He is a strict disciplinarian whose authority and rules are not questioned by anybody in Patiala House. Every addition in the family; be it a cousin or a cousin’s cousin all get accommodated in Patiala House and every new wedding results in the house and family getting bigger and bigger. Nikhil had last spoken about the concept of the film saying, "The entire concept of the film has been conceived by Rahul Nanda, son of famed writer and novelist Gulshan Nanda."

He underwent strength and endurance training. The actor says, ‘I worked out for three months to look tough, beefed-up and lean at the same time. I also followed a strict diet. Getting six pack abs requires not only working out but also eating right. The physique of the character had to match his mental attitude and personality.’

Fitness expert Som Tugnait shares some tips on getting six-pack abs, "Getting six-pack abs takes patience, dedication and perseverance. You have to set your mind to it and you will achieve it. You need an expert trainer to guide you. Along with exercising, you also need to rest your muscles and eat nutritious food. The fat on your stomach has to melt for the abs to show. However, don’t do this one your own. There are no shortcuts and you must listen to your trainer.Every body has a different measure of how it can work towards the 6-pack goal, so follow the chart when you sign up for the task, and follow it like a religion."

Freida Pinto is one such actress for whom Bollywood craves

freida-

Neither is she hot on the web like Katrina Kaif nor as beautiful as Ex Miss World Aishwarya Rai, then too, Slumdog Millionaire girl Freida Pinto is one such actress for whom Bollywood craves.

The gorgeous Pinto babe is on the wish-list of many producers and directors but she has gone to such unattainable heights in the blink of an eye that her priority now is undoubtedly Hollywood, not Bollywood .

According to sources, some of the Indian producers who got a chance to see the gal’s new L’Oreal commercials on a networking site were so keen to sign the desi-gone-videsi girl that they even sent “feelers” to her business agents, asking if she is interested in doing films in Bollywood.

Alas, they have to wait, as Freida’s date diary is full with international films, festivals and events.

Let’s see whether the babe can come down from ‘H’ to ‘B’.

Ram Gopal Varma has confirmed his horror film Phoonk in three languages

Ram_Gop

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has confirmed he will make a sequel to his horror film “Phoonk” in three languages - Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and it will be directed by writer Milind Gadagkar.

“When Milind Gadagkar came up with the idea of ‘Phoonk-2′, the opening sequence itself made me jump in my seat. The moment I read the entire script, I was convinced that he should direct the film as I was amazed at the clarity he had in detailing the story,” Varma posted on his blog Dec 4.

“I also decided to make the film in three languages. In Hindi it is going to be called ‘Phoonk -2′ . In Tamil ‘Bommai-2′ because ‘Phoonk’ has been dubbed in Tamil as ‘Bommai’ and in Telugu it is going to be called ‘Aavaham’ meaning ‘The Possession’,” he added.

The 47-year-old also gave away the plot of the movie.

“If the entire ‘Phoonk’ story was about how this evil woman who practices black magic was bent upon torturing and killing a little girl in order to make her father suffer and how the father manages to get a tantrik who kills the evil woman, ‘Phoonk-2′ starts off with the spirit of the evil woman coming back from the dead and brutally murdering the tantrik,” he wrote.

The movie will star Kannada actor Sudeep along with Amruta Khanvilkar and child actress Ahsaas Channa.

Salman Khan decisive end to his much enjoyed bachelorhood

01salma

Finally, it appears Salman Khan has made up his mind to put a decisive end to his much enjoyed bachelorhood. The swashbuckling actor who’ll turn 44 this December 27 and is still single often gets cornered by the mediapersons about questions relating to his marriage.

During his visit to Indore on Friday, Salman was once again at the receiving end of a similar question when a reporter asked him frankly when he plans to marry.

“Very soon,” Salman quipped, beaming a mischievous smile.

But how soon will this ‘very soon’ be, Salman refused to elaborate.

It’s hard to ascertain whether Salman’ s remark was serious or just made in jest. Whatever the case, we think it’s high time he tied the marital knot. But the question that begs to be asked is: Is the bride-to-be ready?

Our source reports, “We have no idea as to why Star people have invited Rakhi as a guest judge when she herself failed to become a perfect bride in “Rakhi ka Swayamvar’ .”

“Another question that arises is whether the show will have a marriage at the end of “Perfect Bride’ or not. NDTV Imagine too promised to have a marriage after the Swayamvar but failed to keep up to its word. So this does raise a question for Star Plus too…” adds our khabroo.

Talking about Ms. Sawant our source adds, “Rakhi is definitely going to judge the perfection of the bride and the groom but the question arises about her potential as she herself is not able to find a perfect groom for herself so how can she judge others?”

Look out for more masala and controversies on the finale of the controversial show “Perfect Bride’ very soon.

Aamir Khan looked so much like the late filmmaker

aaamirk

The recent coffee table book which saw Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif strike the classical pose of Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rehman left no doubt in anyone’s mind that Aamir looked so much like the late filmmaker. Now comes the part about choice. It seems that it is not just Anurag Kashyap who is making a film on the late Guru Dutt but even UK based writer, Nasreen Munni Kabir, who has written a book on Dutt earlier, is in the fray to make a film on the director.

Both are believed to have settled on Aamir to portray Dutt in their movies. Nasreen had earlier written an exhaustive biography on book on the late filmmaker and has recently made a documentary on Shah Rukh Khan as well, called ’The Inner and Outer World of Shah Rukh Khan.’ She now intends to make a film on Dutt, this time focusing on the making of ’Pyaasa’ and the period around 1957.

In fact, Nasreen has even completed her script and sent it across to Dutt’s son, Arun Dutt, for approval. According to sources, she may have already initiated talks with Aamir. Closer home, Kashyap is believed to also be writing a script on the life, love and times of Dutt and Aamir was also on his list to play the lead role of the maverick filmmaker. Of course, Kashyap being what he is, his script treads a little more controversial ground, according to sources.

It is believed to dwell on the late filmmaker’s so called affair with Waheeda Rehman, his marriage with singer Geeta Dutt and her subsequent death due to drinking. Of course, there is no problem in there being two films or many more being made on this genius, but the hitch is that both filmmakers want Aamir to portray the director. The actor is believed to be quite close to both parties. He is working with Kashyap and Danny Boyle on ’Bombay Velvet’.

On the other hand, he shares a good relationship with Dutt’s son Arun, and his sister, the painter Lalita Lajmi. To top it, he is on very good terms with The UK based Nasreen as well. Now it remains to be seen, which of these two offers he accepts. Of course, it is not yet learnt whether Kashyap has finished his script and it has met with Aamir’s approval. So maybe it’s advantage Nasreen right now? But who can say, except for Aamir, who picks his films with care, one at a time.
