No fashion magazines for Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway , rather she spends free time studying books on physics to enhance her knowledge on the universe.

The “Devil Wears Prada” star admits she shuns fashion magazines and instead stocks up on books by scientist Albert Einstein and physics textbooks in a bid to better understand the universe, reported contactmusic.com.

“I’m interested in elementary particles. What I like thinking about is how time and space exist in the universe and how we understand it.

Any spare time I have, I bury my head in a physics textbook. I’m reading a lot about Einstein. I like theories and I want to understand string theory,” she said.

Juhi Chawla has crooned two song numbers in her own mellifluous voice

Brand endorsements and acting assignments are a steady factor in her kitty. And now the former Ms India (1984), model and actress has added one more facet to her forte.

Juhi Chawla did train in classical singing, but the thought of playback rendition still seemed a daunting prospect.

That tuneful block, though, is out of the way. Thanks to ’Sukhmani’, a Punjabi flick starring Gurdas Maan in which Chawla has crooned two song numbers in her own mellifluous voice.

"Earier, I’d done a classical rendition on stage in front of my Guruji," admits Juhi in a Press chat. "But I have done playback singing for the first time. When ’Sukhmani’ was offered, it was Gurdas who convinced me to sing for the movie."

Freshly inspired, Chawla asserts that, "I do my ’riyaaz’ everyday and I am open to singing offers." Clearly, Chawla’s singing a different tune now ….

Katrina Kaif cast opposite Hrithik Roshan for the first time

These days, Katrina Kaif is picking roles that will provide her the chance to prove her mettle as an actress. She is rumored to be a part of Zoya Akhtar’s movie which stars Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Hrithik Roshan.

If she is indeed a part of the said film, Katrina will be the only female lead. It will be an achievement of sorts because audiences will see her cast opposite Hrithik Roshan for the first time.

Randhir Kapoor family’s dislike for Deepika Padukone visit

Yesterday, a party was hosted by Randhir Kapoor for his co-stars from Sajid Khan’s ‘Housefull’. However, Deepika, who plays one of the female leads, was not invited. Her breakup with Randhir’s nephew, Ranbir, seems to be the only plausible reason for her not being invited.

And while Ranbir may have been very fond of Deepika, his family’s dislike for her has been rather evident. According to sources, the party was attended by Sajid Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala, Farah Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh and Boman Irani.

Apparently, during Boman’s 25th wedding anniversary, the ‘Housefull’ team had told him that they wanted to taste the traditional Kapoor family food at his house. Naturally, Randhir invited them over.

Randhir stated that he hadn’t invited the girls from ‘Housefull’, Jiah Khan, Lara Dutta and Deepika Padukone as they weren’t in Mumbai.

He also asserted that his party had nothing to do with ‘Housefull’ and that he had simply invited a few friends over. However, Jiah said that she’d been trying to reach the party but was in a little fix as it was also her uncle’s birthday.

Though Lara was unavailable to comment, Deepika steered clear of any questions.

NBA star Kobe Bryant gifted his favourite pair of sneakers to Ranbir Kapoor

Three-time National Basketball Association (NBA) star Kobe Bryant gifted one of his favourite pair of sneakers to Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor.

“I heard of stories about Madison Square Garden, but actually being in this place… it was just amazing… I’m still shaking with excitement,” said Ranbir on his recent visit to New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The Bollywood heart-throb received a warm welcome from Bryant, who gifted his sneakers to the actor after a game against the New York Knicks Jan 22, said a press release.

Even Nate Robinson, the 2009 Sprite Slam Dunk contest winner, gifted Ranbir his autographed jersey.

Ranbir’s experience of his visit will be aired on Ten Sports Feb 1 and on Zee Sports Feb 2.

A mountain in China is being named after Hollywood's Avatar

A mountain in China is being named after Hollywood filmmaker James Cameron’s blockbuster sci-fi epic ‘Avatar’.

As the film breaks the record of ‘Titanic’, becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time, Chinese officials renamed a mountain after the film, reported hollywood.com.

South Sky Pillar will now be known as Avatar Hallelujah Mountain on maps and guides.

Actress Tannishtha Chatterjee has earned international acclaim

Actress Tannishtha Chatterjee, who has earned international acclaim with films like ‘Brick Lane’ and German film ‘Shadows of Time’, has confirmed that she has been signed on to essay the lead role in a project to be directed by American actress Lucy Liu.

‘I can now confirm that I am playing the lead role in Lucy Liu’s film. Lucy is a wonderful person and I am excited to be working with her. My film is based on a novel called ‘Half The Sky’ and is one of four short films being directed by four directors,’ Tannishtha told IANS over phone from Mumbai.


The four inspirational stories will be based on women from different countries including India, Ethiopia and Cambodia.




‘The entire concept is very women-centric and is highly inspirational. My part will be shot in India,’ she added.



Asked about her role in the movie, Tannishtha said: ‘These details are all very confidential at the moment. But I can tell you that it is based on a real life character and a true life story.’



The actress says Lucy Liu, who is best known as the cold lawyer in hit TV show ‘Ally McBeal’, will be jetting to India soon to direct the project. But she did not reveal the locations.



‘All I can say is that we will be shooting for the project in the first quarter of this year,’ she said.



If reports are to be believed, Meryl Streep and Angelina Jolie have signed up to take part in the project and will go behind the camera for one project each.



Before the international project goes on the floors, Tannishtha is gearing up to attend the 60th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival where her film ‘Road Movie’ will open the Generation 14Plus competition section.



Directed by Dev Benegal, it also features Abhay Deol and is expected to release in India by the end of February.

Minissha Lamba finally made her dream purchase. She bought her first house last month at Andheri’s Raj Classique, which also houses celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Abbas Tyrewala, Satish Kaushik and Shahid Kapoor , all of whom will be Minissha’s neighbours now.

Minissha bought her three-bedroom apartment after looking for a house for six months. She had looked for a place all over Yari Road, Four Bungalows, Versova only to be disappointed. She even thought of giving up in between.

She hadn’t even thought of looking in this building because she didn’t believe she’d find a flat for sale. And when she did find it by chance, she fell in love with it straightaway.

She thinks it’s important to have a flat of your own when you’re single. She will be doing the interiors of her house herself.

The hamper contained three boxes - one that had 22 wine bottles, one with 22 cakes of different types and sizes, and one with 22 accessories like earrings, bangles, bracelets, etc.

The hamper also contained a note from the fan which said, “22 because you are 22-year-old and a National Award is no mean achievement at such a young age.” Now, isn’t that mind-blowingly sweet?

Pakistani singer Adnan Sami tying the knot for the third time

Pakistani singer Adnan Sami, who has his base here, admits that he is tying the knot for the third time - this time with Roya Faryabi, qualified engineer in Munich, in Europe Jan 31.

“All my family members and all of Roya’s family are going to be at the wedding. I’d like all my friends from Mumbai to accompany me to Europe for the wedding. Unfortunately, there’s no time for them to make travel arrangements. So I’ll have a large wedding reception in Mumbai as soon as Roya and I return after the wedding,” Adnan told IANS.

At the moment, Jermaine Jackson and his wife are on the guest list.

Talking about his second wife Sabah Galadari, he said: “According to Islamic marriage laws, she was technically never my wife at all. Even if she was, my religion permits me to have three wives.”

“I was going through the worst phase of my life when I met Roya. I lost my grandfather, then my father. She held my hand during my darkest hours while I was fighting the ugliest court battle with my former wife.”

“Roya is very family-oriented. More than the fact that she loves me, I love her for understanding the importance of family ties. Roya respects my mother. This is something I didn’t have in my earlier marriage.”

Most important of all, Adnan’s son Azaan gets along like a house of fire with his new stepmom-to-be.

“The most important criteria for me in any woman is that she has to get along with my son. While Sabah couldn’t get along with Azaan, Roya loves my boy. In fact, they are best friends and I’m often the brunt of their jokes.”

Happiness has come to Adnan at a time when he had hit rock bottom on a personal level.

“I wouldn’t say Roya came into my life suddenly. We got to know each other gradually. After having gone through what I have, I was in no mood to jump into a new relationship. But it didn’t take me long to realise she was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.”

Roya will move to Mumbai with Adnan right after the wedding.

“She is a qualified engineer in Munich and works in the communication services. The organization has branches all over the world. They’re looking at opening a branch in Mumbai now that Roya is shifting to the city,” said Adnan who wants his wife to continue working after marriage.

“Isn’t it enough sacrifice that she’s leaving her family behind to join me in Mumbai? I don’t want her to give up her career,” he said.

Youtube will be foraying into the business of movie rentals

The video website, Youtube, had declared that it will be foraying into the business of movie rentals. It has declared that the service is only going to be on a trial basis. The rental service would be inaugurated with films chosen from among the independent movies that have been shown in the Sundance Film Festivals in the years 2009 and 2010. The online movie rental service have been open since Jan 22, 2010. However, the bad news is that those outside of the United States would not be able to avail of this service. Also, for the first few days, the collection will consist of only five films. The films will be available for the duration of one to two days.

The move has come as part of the many plans that have been in the pipeline for the Google owned company. The initiative has been taken mainly keeping in mind the expansion of the service, according to David Eun, the vice president for Google’s content partnerships. The move will also increase the revenue for the company. However, it has been made clear by the company that the move is only an experiment, nothing more than a testing of the waters.

According to Todd Barnes, the director of one of the films that are being shown in the 201o Sundance Film Festival, “Homewrecker,” the film rental service comes as a boon for the filmmakers too. Especially at a time when it is becoming increasingly difficult for them to secure distribution deals in the theaters. It is also expected that in the future, it will be possible to rent videos of television shows from the rental service.

Having been on honeymoon for about a month and a half with hubby Raj Kundra,Shilpa Shetty is back in Mumbai and all set to get back to work. Shilpa, who went on a romantic trip to the Bahamas, stayed at the famed Atlantis Hotel before going to London to attend a party at the House of Commons hosted in her honour. She has not signed any new projects in the last one year, and now that she is married, one should not expect her to. She is very busy with her varied business interests and also setting up her two homes - one in Mumbai and the other in London.”

Shilpa will also be engrossed with the third season of the Indian Premier League . On Tuesday, she attended the player auctions on behalf of the Rajasthan Royals franchise, in which she has a 12 per cent stake. I don`t know how Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie can bear that kind of life, because personally it`s an issue for me," he added.

The intensely private actor, who only feels truly relaxed when on his island, said his life is so insular, he learns everything from his children.

The 46-year-old actor said, "Because I never leave the house I live outside society. But I`m a witness of my children`s lives. I see how they`re doing at school and how they treat their friends. My kids are a lot smarter than me. When I watch them I learn a lot. I don`t think there`s anything they could learn from me."
